HYDERABAD: The government had promised to bring the Krishna waters to the city by March 31. It did not happen. The water, after travelling 30 km from Kodandapur, is now accumulated at Nasarlapalli, 86 km from the city, waiting to be pumped.
Now, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) managing director M G Gopal says it will take until April 4 for the water to reach the city.

He blamed the delay on some technical problems like lack of power supply. Gopal’s commitment: Residents of Vinay Nagar Colony at Santosh Nagar Crossroads will drink Krishna water on April 4. However, he said it will take at least two weeks to stabilise the system
and supply water to the residents. As things stand now, water is being supplied on alternate days. When the system is in place fully, the daily supplies will be ensured, he said.
In the first few days, Krishna waters will be used to “pressurise the pipelines zone by zone in order to find if there are any leakages. When all the leakages are plugged supplies will come daily, he added. Water will reach the city in a phased manner, Gopal added.
At first, only 10 million gallons a day (mgd) will reach and slowly in a fortnight all 45 mgd will flow through the taps, he added.
“The delay in Krishna water reaching as promised was mainly because of a bandh called by naxalites on March 15, 17 and 22 and precious time was lost as Andhra Pradesh Transmission Corporation failed to work on its sub-stations and power lines, a Water Board official confirmed.
